AFD1100 Series / Active Force Tools
The 1100 Series Active Force Device is the most powerful and rugged tool in the product line. This unit was developed in response
to customer's needs for increased force capacity and carriage stroke.
The 1100 Series uses the same patented force control technology
as the 1000 Series to provide incredibly accurate performance. This superior performance benefits you by immediately providing
greater processing throughput with more consistent, higher quality results.
The 1100 Series "Big Tex" is offered in vertical,
horizontal & table top configurations, (AFD1100-1, AFD1100-2 & AFD1100-3 respectively).
Here are just a few operations
the 1100 Series, coupled with the proper process equipment, can accomplish faster, more accurately and with greater control than ever
before:
- Grinding (molds, weld beads)
- Deburring (parting lines, chamfer)
- Polishing (glass, wood, sheet metal)
- Drilling / Chamfering (thru-hole
, to-depth)
- Weld shaving (see SWS100-3.7)
- Any other process which requires an accurate,
compliant, continuously adjustable appled force.
Features:
- Constant
force regardless of tool orientation
- Automatic acceleration compensation
- Automatic payload wieght measurement
- Quick-change capability
- Force
can be varied based on slide position
- Fast mechanical response
- All fittings, fasteners and threaded holes are METRIC

U.S. Patent No. 5,448,146
The 1100 Series "Big Tex" is capable of applying higher forces for longer periods of time than is humanly possible. These large
forces coupled with high horsepower servo mtoors can achieve material removal rates comparable to many machine tools. In addition
to applying high forces, the 1100 Series has a longer 1.6 inch (40mm) carriage linear stroke.
The 1000/1100 Series active force
devices and FCU1000 Active compliance controller are a direct result of this research. The controller executes proprietary algorithms,
continuously monitoring the force applied to the work surface and immediately correcting any detedted force variations. This
advanced technology allows the 1100 Series to apply very accurate forces over their entire operational range.
Active closed-loop
control provides many additional features not available in the less sophisticated passive systems. The 1100 Series have the
built-in ability to precisely weigh the payload and compensate for gravity induced forces in any orientation. For example, if
60.4 lbs (268.7 N) of force is required; the 1100 Series will apply this force in any orientation - horizontal, vertical, even inverted,
regardless of tool weight.
Installation involves connecting one small flexible air supply line and a supplied controller cable.
The simple Microsoft Windowsä software setup means that you can be up and running your process in a matter of minutes.
The 1100
Series "Big Tex" provides the capability to handle applications that, up to now, have been impossible to automate. The 1100
Series can perform extraordinary amounts of work in little time; increasing your process throughput.
