AFD50 Series / Micro Force Tools
The AFD50 Series Force Device is a simple, low-cost wrist mounted unit for light weight deburring or surface finishing applications.  Using a low friction cylinder and linear rail technology this device delivers outstanding performance.  Fitted with a high speed motor the 50 Series excels at deburring work, whether removing parting lines or chamfering an edge.  Mount a small grinding or polishing motor and use the AFD for light surface finishing.

The 50 Series can be configured as either and AFD51 single acting with only positive force application or an AFD52 double acting with positive and negative force capability.

The 50 Series Passive Force Device was designed for low force applications on small capacity robots.  As such the 50 Series is very simple and light weight, but it still incorporates several innovative features.  The 50 Series used glass pneumatic cylinders with graphite pistons, and linear ball bearings to reduce operating friction.  It can be configured to mount on many low capacity robots.  The AFD50 may also be supplied to apply only positive forces, the AFD51, or both positive and negative forces, the AFD52.

The 50 Series requires the user to supply at least one pressure regulator to control the force output.

If an AFD52 is specified then two regulators are required.  The device has low friction components, so that the force output resolution is highly dependant on the regulator accuracy.  The regulator can be manual or electrically controlled based on the application.  If a constant force is required and the tool orientation does not change a manual regulator is sufficient.  If the force and / or orientation changes during the process, then an electrically controlled regulator is required.  This means that the process equipmen weight must be compensated for, which requires calculation of the regulator pressure.
